Russia has suspended the payment of contributions to the budget of the Council of Europe
Moscow. June 30. INTERFAX.RU — Moscow suspends payment of a contribution to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) until the full restoration of credentials of the delegation of the Federal Assembly of Russia, stated the Russian foreign Ministry.
“Given that the Russian Federation has decided to suspend the payment of its contribution to the Council of Europe for 2017 to the unconditional restoration of full powers of delegation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in PACE,” — said in a statement the Russian foreign Ministry posted on the website of the guardian.
The head of Russian foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov has notified the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, during a telephone conversation on Friday.
The delegation of Russia in 2014 was stripped to the PACE of authority over the situation around Crimea and Ukraine and therefore refused to participate in the sessions of the Assembly.
