Ban St. George ribbon on Ukraine is tantamount to the desecration of mass graves of soldiers, said the Vice-speaker of the state Duma Irina Yarovaya, calling the disgraceful reaction of Europe, “which silently watching the” behind the violation of the rights of Ukrainians.

Yesterday President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian head of state signed the law “on the prohibition of the manufacture and propaganda” St. George’s ribbon, in Ukraine. Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law which introduces administrative liability (a fine or arrest) for the preparation and carrying in Ukraine, the St. George ribbon. The document provides an exception for veterans of the great Patriotic war, medals, or medals which contain elements of the St. George ribbon.

“Ban St. George ribbon is tantamount to a desecration of the mass graves of the soldiers who defended the world from fascism. Poroshenko tries to legitimize neo-Nazism, to arrest the memory and conscience of Ukrainian people”, — said Yarovaya, commenting on the signing by the President Ukraine the law.

“It’s a shame for all of Europe, which silently watches over the arbitrariness and violation of rights and freedoms in Ukraine and the neo-Nazi solutions”, she added.
