Tennis player Marat Safin has decided to refuse the mandate of the Deputy of the state Duma. This was announced by first Deputy head of the Duma faction “United Russia”, Adalbi Shhagoshev, reports TASS on Thursday, may 25.

Safin has already filed a statement, but the decision on it is pending. According to Schegoleva, tennis player doubts whether he can combine parliamentary activities with sports and social life.

The athlete confirmed that he had decided to hand over the mandate. “After the sports career in tennis I’m like the winner of the tournament “Grand slam” taking part in the exhibition, and veteran matches in international tournaments ATP, carry out teaching and I think this is the direction of public importance,” — said in his address to the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin (available to the “Fontanka”).

Safin, as the newspaper notes, he expressed his willingness to execute any order Volodin, “including those associated with the development of the Russian sports”.

According to “Interfax”, the Committee on rules has decided to grant the request of Safina. Final decision will be made at the plenary session of the Duma.

37-year-old Marat Safin first elected to the state Duma from “United Russia” in 2011. In the lower house of Parliament represented the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the results of the Duma elections last fall, was re-elected in the new seventh composition of the state Duma, where he became a member of the culture Committee.

On the official website of the Duma noted that Safin is co-sponsored 20 bills. Among them is the initiative about toughening of administrative punishment for vandalism against works of art on amendments to the criminal code on the rights of the suspect on the phone, as well as several projects affecting the interests of indigenous peoples of the North.
