Continued: In Chechnya, “wanted to spit” on the HRW report on participation of authorities in raids on gays
Non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a report which confirms that in the spring the staff of power structures of Chechnya conducted a “campaign of raids on gays”.
“Security forces arbitrarily detained and tortured and humiliated of men on suspicion of homosexuality. The Federal center should ensure the effective investigation of these gross violations of human rights”, — stated in the document. It also says that “other States should provide safe refuge to victims who are in immediate danger of physical harm while they remain on the territory of Russia”.
A 42-page report “”they Have long arms and they will find me.” A roundup of gay men in Chechnya in the spring of 2017,” based on interviews with victims from the actions of Chechen security forces in late February to early April.
Indicates that in this period suspected of being gay were detained, starved, beaten and tortured with electric shocks, demanding to provide information about other gays. “There is reason to believe that several people in the result of this operation, anti-gay, lost his life. “Chechen officials, including two senior reportedly was visited by such illegal places (…), mocked and was present at the torture,” says the author of the document. According to her, it appears that the Chairman of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic Magomed Daudov (nickname Lord) played a key role in the organization of “cleansing” the region of the gay, approved by the Republican leadership. As told by several interlocutors HRW of casualties from the raids, they have personally seen Daudova, when contained in Argun and Grozny. Former captives said that the Lord watched as the police beat and humiliated the alleged homosexuals.
Campaign against gays in Chechnya was actively covered by “Novaya Gazeta”. The head of the Republic Ramzan Kadyrov denies that the persecution of homosexuals. A number of departments began to check.
