Transnistria will not get independence, said the President of Moldova Igor Dodon and reminded the leader of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic of the debt for natural gas. Transnistria, 60% of inhabitants are Russians and Ukrainians sought to secede from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that on the wave of nationalism Moldova will join Romania.

CHISINAU, may 25 — RIA Novosti. Transnistria will not get independence, said the President of Moldova Igor Dodon and reminded the leader of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic of the debt for natural gas.

Transnistria, 60% of inhabitants are Russians and Ukrainians sought to secede from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that on the wave of nationalism Moldova will join Romania. In 1992, after a failed attempt of the authorities of Moldova force to solve the problem, Transnistria has become virtually beyond the control of Chisinau’s territory. In September 2006, Transnistria held a referendum, the absolute majority of Transnistrians voted for independence and subsequent accession to Russia. Moscow has announced its recognition of the legitimacy of the referendum.

According to Dodon, one of the main goals and objectives which it sets itself in as President of Moldova, is the unification of the country. He reiterated that Moldova has no future without Transnistria as well as in Transnistria there is no future without Moldova.

“Independence will never happen, the status of subject of the Russian Federation will not be, but the unification in a single state of the Federal… We will find a formula. Let’s sit down and talk about this,” said an announcement in a broadcast on local TV channels.

He reminded the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky on the debt of Transdniestria for natural gas, and that the investments were not properly mastered.

“There are forces who do not want to unite. They damn the interests of the inhabitants of Transnistria. Although most of the residents, I am sure, want to be able to be on the right Bank, to study abroad, to export their goods. I communicate with the economic agents. The situation is very close to ending. I do not exclude that, when the situation is close to ending, someone will throw impromptu or some kind of provocation”, — said Igor Dodon.

The President of Moldova added that he respects Krasnosel’skaya. “He is an experienced man, but I hope he will not yield to those who are interested to Transnistria remained so,” he stated.

He assumed the position of President of Moldova on December 23. According to his election program, he intends to restore the strategic partnership with Russia, the return of Moldovan products to the Russian market and to normalize the cooperation in the energy sector. He previously stated that Moldova “is vital to restore relations with Russia.”
