Japan relies on the responsible approach of the Russian Federation in the issue of the DPRK
TOKYO, may 21. /Offset. TASS Igor Belyaev/. Japan hopes for responsible approach by Russia in solving the problem of North Korea. This opinion aired by Japanese television was expressed by foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.
“Russia and China have a very big impact on North Korea. And we rely on responsible approach on the part of Russia which is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, in addressing the problem of North Korea”, — said Kishida. The head of the Japanese foreign Ministry also stressed that it was important to continue to discuss with Russia the situation on the Korean Peninsula in the ongoing between Tokyo and Moscow active political dialogue.
The head of the Japanese foreign Ministry also did not rule out the possibility of additional sanctions against the DPRK. “If provocative actions will continue, I think that this will entail new sanctions from the UN security Council,” he said. Kishida also stressed the importance of full compliance with the unilateral sanctions imposed by different States against the DPRK.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula escalated in early last year, when Pyongyang carried out a nuclear test and later launched a ballistic missile artificial satellite of the Earth. In September 2016, the DPRK conducted another nuclear test, and during the year carried out more than 20 missile launches. Regular missile tests continued into this year.
