Putin: Syrian peace talks in Astana, laid the Foundation for negotiations in Geneva

ALMA-ATA, February 27. /TASS/. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin believes that inter-Syrian talks in Astana has laid the main Foundation for the talks in Geneva – established a monitoring mechanism for the ceasefire. “These negotiations (on Syria in Astana) ended, and ended with this result, which has never been, – he said at a meeting with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. – Namely, a mechanism of monitoring the cease-fire, and it is, in fact, the most important thing, the most important Foundation, which gave the opportunity to continue the Geneva talks”.

Putin thanked Nazarbayev for organization of the inter-Syrian talks in Astana. “The Kazakh side has played a very positive role, not only as a host, as the organizer of this event, but also had an impact really on the positive results of the meeting in Astana”, – said the head of state.
