The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Makarov said that the allegations that the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Russian Orthodox Church were not agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin are not true. The speaker said that the Council need to pass as soon as possible, according to Life.ru.
“If the proposal causes tension in society, this problem must withdraw as soon as possible. To relieve the tension, it is necessary to remove the cause, and for this we need as soon as possible to pass the Cathedral,” – said Makarov.
Last week it was reported that the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko did not coordinate their decision to transfer to St. Isaac’s Cathedral Russian Orthodox Church with the Russian President.
Formerly the St. Petersburg deputies asked the Minister of culture Vladimir Medina to speed up the transfer process. However, the Ministry of culture stated that it could not affect the process of the restoration of the temple of the Russian Orthodox Church, so the transfer will take place at the agreed earlier time.
