The state Duma has honored the memory of the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin, who died February 20, with a minute of silence. About it the correspondent “Tapes.ru” on Wednesday, February 22.
“We all knew and respected for his position, a man who defended the interests of our country, a brilliant diplomat, a man who loved our country. At the forefront of the diplomatic work at the UN he did everything in order to protect the interests of our citizens”, — said the speaker of the lower house of Parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin.
On the eve of President of Russia Vladimir Putin awarded the diplomat of the order of Courage posthumously “for the dedication, fortitude and professionalism”.
In his message of condolences directed to the spouse of the diplomat, the Russian leader noted that Churkin was one of the most distinguished diplomats and a true patriot.
Vitaly Churkin died in new York on Monday, February 20, the day before your 65th birthday. He held the post of Russia’s envoy at the UN since 2006.
