Several hundred diplomats came to say goodbye to Churkin in new York

More than 300 Russian and foreign diplomats came to say goodbye with the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin. This was announced by Russian diplomatic mission in Twitter.


 


At the farewell ceremony were made by the widow Churkin – Irina, his son Maxim, Russian Ambassador in Washington Sergey Kislyak, the permanent representatives of Kazakhstan and the United States – Nikki Haley and Kairat Umarov accordingly. Also the floor was taken by Deputy Russian Ambassador Pyotr Ilyich and Vladimir Safronkov. Could not remain indifferent and UN Secretary-General, antónio Guterres, who noted the “unquestioned authority” Churkin in the Security Council and the respect which he enjoyed among his colleagues.


 


We will remind, Vitaly Churkin, who held the post of permanent representative to the UN more than 11 years, died February 20 – the day before your 65th birthday. The UN security Council the next day held a minute of silence in memory of him, and the General Assembly in the coming days will hold a special meeting.


 


Today until 18:00 new York time at the permanent representation of the Russian Federation will open a condolence book.



 


We will remind, earlier official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the coffin with the body Vitaly Churkin will arrive in Moscow on February 23. 24 February in the Russian capital will hold events.
