Avigdor Lieberman
The Israeli defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has called a “great soldier” soldier Elora Azariah, who was sentenced to six years in prison for killing a wounded and disarmed a Palestinian terrorist. The statement of the Minister given on his page in Facebook.
“The Ministry of defense and the IDF must support the soldier and his family. We are talking about a great soldier and the terrorist who came to kill the Jews. Everyone should be aware of this,” said Lieberman, urging everything be done to the final closing of the Affairs of Uzziah.
On 4 January the Israeli military court found a Sergeant of the Israel defense forces (IDF) Elora Azariah guilty of the manslaughter of Palestinians. Later he was sentenced to fifteen years in prison, while the prosecution asked for three to five years of imprisonment and a maximum term for the criminal charges is 20 years.
Protection of Azariah did not exclude the possibility of appeal. The Palestinian side has criticized the verdict and declared readiness to appeal to the international criminal court.
The incident occurred in March 2016 while the Palestinian, Abdul al-Fatah al-Sharif attacked an Israeli soldier in Hebron city and was wounded. When he was on the bridge, bleeding profusely, Azariah raised his gun and shot him in the head. He explained to his commander that the criminal wounded his comrades, therefore, must be killed.
