Vasilyev: the use of history should be mandatory

The head of the Ministry noted that this question requires discussion.

MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. Exam on the history of Russia should be required.

This was stated by Minister of education and science Olga Vasilieva at the plenary session of the all-Russian conference “History of Russia in the XXI century through the eyes of students.”

“In his speech, Galina (Karelova, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council — approx. TASS) told a very important idea that Russian history should be a single national exam. Here I am, as a historian primarily, is convinced that it needs to be mandatory,” said the Minister.

“Of course, this question requires discussion, but a person can not, after 11 years of training, do not know its history,” — said Vasilyev.

A single history textbook

Almost all regions will teach the history of Russia on new textbooks in the 2017-2018 year

“We will do our best to this year… most of the regions, almost all in 2017-2018 (training — approx. TASS) year there were already new textbooks from 1 September. For us it is very important,” — said Vasilyev.

Historical-cultural standard for future textbooks on the history of Russia was prepared in 2013 on the basis of the Institute of Russian history.

The standard includes a fundamental evaluation of the key events of the past, the main approaches to the teaching of national history in the modern school with a list of required to study themes, concepts and terms, events, and personalities. It aims to facilitate the formation of a single cultural and historical space of the Russian Federation.
