The world’s largest yacht is Russian billionaire arrested in Gibraltar

Private yacht billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, A Sailing Yacht (“yacht And sail”) was arrested because of claims of the German construction of the shipyard in the amount of 15 million euros. It is reported portal Yacht Harbour on Sunday, February 19.

A few days ago the ship arrived in Gibraltar for finishing works, then it had to pass trials in Spain. February 5 the sailing ship left the German city of Kiel.

Lawyers Nobiskrug shipyard, which had built the yacht, filed a lawsuit for breach of contract. It argues that the customer — company Valla Yachts Limited has not transferred the last tranche of 9.8 million euros to 27 January, as provided for in the contract. In addition, the shipbuilders of any claim 2.6 and 2.9 million in connection with the debt of the sub-accounts and contested during its construction orders. In the result the total amount of the claim has reached $ 15.3 million euros.

The vessel shall be delivered in spring 2017.

The world’s largest sailing yacht, built with money Melnichenko (the owner of EuroChem, SUEK, Siberian generating company), were launched near the German city of Kiel, in the fall of 2015. Its length is 143 meters, displacement — more than 14 thousand tons, and the total sail area — bigger than a football field. The yacht’s eight decks, it is designed for a crew of 54 people.

On the draft of the vessel labored a French industrial designer Philippe Starck (Philippe Starck). He has worked with Melnichenko and created its “Motor yacht A”. The ship was built on one of the largest shipyards of the company Nobiskrug in Germany.

The cost of the vessel is, according to various estimates, more than $ 400 million.
