Germany this year will receive a record number of migrants
Moscow. 19 Feb. INTERFAX.RU — a Record number of migrants to be deported by Germany in 2017, said Peter Altmaier, head of the administration of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In an interview with Bild am Sonntag, he said that of the 700 thousand requests for asylum filed in 2016, about 300 thousand were not satisfied.
In 2016, the official said, Germany deported about 80 thousand migrants.
Observers note that this decision was made in order to attract voters at the election of the Chancellor in September, because Merkel’s policy towards migrants is not popular among the population.
