The procession with the prayer singing to the monk Isaac of Dalmatia was held by St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg. About it reports “Interfax” on Sunday, February 12.
At 13:00 opponents of the transfer of the Cathedral of Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) will hold near it a protest. According to the Deputy of Legislative Assembly Boris Vishnevsky, the event will be held in the format of meetings with voters. Protesters plan to stand around St. Isaac’s Cathedral, wearing blue ribbons.
February 8, the St. Petersburg authorities to officially equate a meeting of deputies with voters to rally. Their implementation should be coordinated with law enforcement.
The adopted amendments were a reaction of the city authorities on last January 28, a protest against the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral Church on the Champ de Mars. The administration of Petersburg has rejected a request for a meeting, so the event was organized as the meeting with the deputies of the legislative Assembly. It came to about two thousand citizens.
10 January 2017, the Governor of St. Petersburg announced the government’s decision to give Isaac’s Cathedral to the gratuitous use of the Church for 49 years.
