Belgorod Governor has denied rumors of resignation, and again going to the polls

Belgorod region Governor Yevgeny Savchenko has called rumors about his resignation “someone’s speculation.” The corresponding statement he made at a press conference on Wednesday, February 8, reports TASS.

“Term of my powers expires in October 2017. Nothing prevents me for another term to run. I plan to exercise this right, the option of withdrawal is not considered”, — said the head of the region.

Earlier Wednesday, press Secretary of the head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen Marina Kabaluk denied information to the media about his possible resignation.

On 7 February it became known that the resignation of the head of Buryatia Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn, the head of the Republic for two terms. On the same day, President Vladimir Putin appointed acting head of Buryatia Alexey Tzudenova, who worked as a Deputy Minister of transport of Russia.

The day before his resignation was filed by the Governor of Perm region Viktor Basargin. The acting head of the region became Maxim Reshetnikov, former head of the Department for economic policy and development.

Savchenko headed the Belgorod region since 1993. He was elected to the presidency four times. The last elections of the head of the Belgorod region, the results of which were won by Yevgeny Savchenko, held in 2012.
