BUDAPEST, February 2. /TASS/. One of the reasons for the deterioration of the situation in the Donbas lies in the fact that Kiev, in need of money, tries to present itself as a victim in the eyes of the international community. This opinion was expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference during his visit to Hungary.

“The first reason is that the Ukrainian authorities today need the money. And money it is best to blow from the European Union, and individual European countries, from the United States and from international financial institutions, exposing themselves as the victims of aggression,” – said the Russian leader.

He also cited other reasons, including Kiev’s attempts to fight the opposition, diverting attention to the escalation in the Donbas.

The scenario of the situation in the Donbass

Putin expressed the hope that sane forces inside of Ukraine will not allow to develop the situation in the Donbass “under the worst scenario”.

Answering questions of journalists at a press conference during his visit to Hungary, the Russian leader noted that “the current Ukrainian government is not ready to implement the Minsk agreements and is looking for a reason to refuse its execution”.

“I really hope that sensible forces in Ukraine itself, as well as those interested in matters of this kind by political means, will not allow to develop the situation in the South-East of Ukraine in the worst case scenario, but rather focus all their attention and efforts in order to fulfil the Minsk agreements”, – said the President of the Russian Federation.
