In the US, explained why it had not imposed sanctions against Putin

White house spokesman Josh Ernest at a regular briefing, explained why the US imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the alleged cyber attacks Russia on the American electoral system.

“According to the policy of sanctions, the leaders of foreign States are specified in the black list only in certain circumstances. And it would be extraordinary if Putin turned out to be in this list,” said Ernest, answering a corresponding question of journalists.

Media representatives also asked why, in 2015, the US imposed sanctions against China, which Washington has attributed the cyber attacks on computer systems of the American government.

“Both of these incidents were malicious in nature, but differ on the merits”, — said Ernest.

The US accuses Russian hacker attacks on the resources of the political organizations of the country during the election campaign. At the same time Washington cannot show any proof of Moscow’s participation in the cyber crimes.
