Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss with Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon, the expulsion of Russian diplomats from the country on the sidelines of the St Petersburg international economic forum (SPIEF), said the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. His words leads to “Interfax” on Wednesday, may 31.
“There will be a brief meeting, during which, I think, the President will emphasize what the consequences of such ill-considered steps can have,” — said Ushakov.
Earlier Wednesday, the Russian side announced five employees of the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow persona non grata. They were ordered to leave the country within three days. This step was a response to the decision of the Moldovan foreign Ministry on expulsion of five Russian diplomats.
Igor Dodon called the incident a provocation and “an unfriendly step on the part of the representatives of the Moldovan diplomacy.” He also said that he plans to discuss the incident with the Russian leader at SPIEF in Saint Petersburg, which will be held from 1 to 3 June.
