A bill to impose criminal liability for violations of the election up to five years of imprisonment developed and submitted for review to the government and the Supreme court. This was reported TASS the author of the initiative, the head of the Duma Committee on state construction and legislation Pavel Krasheninnikov.

“The bill is designed. Yesterday sent it for opinion to the government and the Supreme court. In a few weeks, these reviews will appear, and we the bill will be introduced. I think in the spring session we will approve it,” said Krasheninnikov.

However, he clarified that the maximum penalty proposed to establish in the form of imprisonment for five years for “organized group of people stuffing ballot papers in collusion with members of election commissions”. “But this is an extreme measure. There are fines from 300 thousand rubles for various violations”, – he added.

Previously, the need to amend the criminal code (CC) for the purpose of suppression of attempts of organized interference in the election process was declared by the Secretary of the CEC, Maya Grishina. As she explained TASS, referring to the punishment for organizing mass repeated voting. Amendments to the criminal code should be introduced in a separate bill.
