Former Trump adviser Bolton: Russia needs to be distracted in Transnistria and South Ossetia the purpose of which is not yet clear. The United States needs to respond to this policy globally, starting to defrost the slow-moving conflicts in this territory. Former National Security Adviser John Bolton called for such action in an article for 19Fortyfive.
“One of the policy priorities should be the destruction of Transnistria, an artificial entity completely dependent on Russia. Another distraction may be the increased attention of the international community to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the “occupied provinces” of Georgia, ”Bolton shared his ideas. Such actions will help distract Russia from the Ukrainian direction, he said.

According to a former adviser from the administration of US President Donald Trump, only a global strategy using NATO levers can oppose Putin, who is pursuing a long-term policy throughout the entire post-Soviet space, considering it as a single whole.
The current actions of the United States and its allies are not enough, Bolton is sure. An increase in military aid to Ukraine, opposition to Nord Stream 2, a boycott of Russian oil and other diplomatic and economic sanctions – all this will not stop Russia, because they are only a situational response to its strategy.
Formerly NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg refused military assistance to Ukraine in the event of a full-scale enemy invasion. Stoltenberg stressed that Ukraine is not a NATO member state, and therefore the collective security treaty does not apply to it.
