Sadzaglishvili's lawyer: Saakashvili was tortured in prison and asked to be released This was stated by his lawyer Dmitry Sadzaglishvili, RIA Novosti reports.
He pointed out that the politician's health was affected by the 50-day hunger strike and inhuman attitude. “In a normal country, they would give the opportunity for free treatment … In normal countries, in such cases, complete release is also possible,” the lawyer noted.
Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Saakashvili's girlfriend Yelizaveta Yasko said that after the hunger strike his brain and internal organs are damaged. She added that the politician “holds on” morally and remains “in a fighting spirit.” This happened after he was transferred from a prison hospital in Tbilisi to a military hospital in Gori. Saakashvili's personal doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze said that the politician will need several months to fully recover.
Mikhail Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1. He returned to the country after eight years in exile to take part in the protests. Previously, he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison for the murder of a banker and beating of a deputy.
