Yahoo News Japan: Russian Narwhal weapon station will allow to repel drone attacks

Sato notes that the Narwhal could be an inexpensive and effective means of countering drones. Available drones can be used not only by armies, but also by irregular formations. This may lead to the demand for the Russian combat module in the countries of the Near and Middle East.
The Narwhal was equipped with a Kord heavy machine gun, a target tracking machine, a thermal imager and a rangefinder. Serial production of the combat module developed by NPO Elektromashina (part of the Uralvagonzavod concern of the Rostec state corporation) will begin in 2022.
The author emphasizes the relevance of the new anti-drone countermeasures for Russia. “It is no secret that some of the countries surrounding Russia are preparing to use drones, either independently developed or easily purchased on foreign markets, for possible surprise air attacks on Russian targets in the event of military conflicts,” Sato emphasizes.
Previously CEO of the Kronstadt company, Sergei Bogatikov spoke about the first missile launch from an unmanned helicopter. Termit used S-8L missiles.
In September, Igor Afanasyev, General Director of NPO Elektromashina, announced the completion of tests of the Narval combat module. He noted that, at the request of the customer, the installation can be equipped with a radar, an all-round visibility system and means of protection against high-precision weapons.
