On November 17, the State Duma in the first reading considered the draft amendments to the law on the procedure for leaving the country and entering it, which had previously been submitted to parliament by the government.
In particular, among the proposed new reasons for the seizure of a foreign passport – its loss, change of name or gender, change of data on the date and place of birth, expiration of the document, its non-receipt within three years from the date of registration, receipt of a passport for fake or invalid documents, as well as the discovery of inaccurate information in it.
The bill states that when a passport is seized, officials will be required to draw up a protocol, and citizens will be able to appeal against their decision. The government will establish the procedure and terms for withdrawing the document in a separate by-law.
