Doctor Komarovsky warned about the dangers of misusing antibiotics
Doctor and TV presenter Yevgeny Komarovsky listed six mistakes that often make when taking antibiotics. In a post on Instagram, he warned of the dangers of misusing these drugs.
One of the first mistakes the doctor called self-medication, which, according to the specialist, arises from the irresponsibility and arrogance of people. Komarovsky also noted that this is facilitated by “criminal state policy”, which creates conditions for the free circulation of antibacterial drugs.
The doctor also urged not to take antibiotics for viral infections. “The main problem is that this phenomenon takes place not only in the form of self-medication. Many doctors are convinced of the prophylactic effectiveness of antibiotic therapy, ”he said and noted that the healthcare system should not allow this.
Another mistake when taking antibiotics, the doctor called irrational local use. “Antibiotics used systemically (inside, intramuscularly, intravenously) should not be used topically (nasal drops, ointments),” the doctor explained and added that there are two exceptions – purulent otitis media and purulent conjunctivitis.
Komarovsky also warned against prematurely stopping antibiotics. He clarified that for each infection, the optimal treatment terms have been determined, which must be observed in order to avoid a recurrence of the disease.
The doctor also called it a mistake to reapply the same antibiotic with a similar diagnosis. “If the same disease repeats after a short time, then it is quite logical to assume that when it re-emerges, it is already associated with those microbes that“ survived ”after the first course of treatment, and therefore, the drug used will be ineffective,” said Komarovsky. He also added that repeated use of an antibacterial drug can cause allergies, it is especially important to take this into account when treating children.
The doctor also noted that one should not neglect the rules of treatment and dosage. “The frequency of intake varies from one to four times a day, the relationship with food intake is different, some drugs cannot be taken with milk, as well as many other nuances,” he explained. According to the doctor, patients often do not pay enough attention to studying the instructions, which leads to irrational treatment.
