British Interior Minister Patel: Hamas movement will be recognized as a terrorist organization
London recognizes the entire Palestinian Hamas movement as a terrorist organization. This was stated by British Interior Minister Priti Patel, reports BBC News.
According to the newspaper, the military wing of the group has already been recognized as a terrorist organization in London. However, this status will also be assigned to the political wing of the Islamist movement. Patel is expected to announce the decision on November 19.
“Hamas has significant terrorist potential, as well as access to extensive and modern weapons and terrorist training facilities,” the head of the British department said. According to her, the United Kingdom government supports the fight against extremism and terrorism in any part of the world.
In August, the American human rights organization Human Rights Watch said that the actions of the Palestinian group Hamas during the conflict with Israel in May 2021 fall into under the definition of a war crime. Thus, according to the report, the indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israeli territory, which resulted in the death of 13 people, are “a flagrant violation of the laws of war.” As a result of the May escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict during 11 days of mutual shelling, at least 260 people were killed in the Gaza Strip, 13 in Israel.
