The logic of telephone scammers explained to the Russians

Specialist Sizov: the scammers' logic depends on the base on which they are preparing the theft basically two factors are taken into account. Alexei Sizov, head of the anti-fraud department of Jet Infosystems, warned about this in an interview with Sputnik radio.

According to him, fraudsters, planning to steal funds, are guided by many factors, of which two main points can be distinguished. The first is the background information about the potential victim. According to Sizov, the scammers follow from what information they use to prepare an attack.

“Some of the fraudulent attempts take place on an empty base, that is, conditionally, they only have a phone number and a name and patronymic of a potential victim. Then they need to get more information first, “the expert explained.

If the theft attempt is based on information from a compromised e-mail address or information from a device infected with a virus, then fraudsters can act more effectively. Here, according to Sizov, it is important for fraudsters to choose the right time to communicate with a potential victim. According to the expert, most often scammers launch attacks on bank customers on Fridays and weekends.

“This is due to the fact that on weekends the banks have fewer qualified employees who can more accurately respond to the new fraud scheme and reduce potential damage,” he explained.

In case the call from the bank seems questionable , Sizov advises to end the conversation immediately – immediately after the request to provide any personal information. In addition, after the attack is disrupted, you need to call the bank at the number indicated on the back of the card and find out if everything is in order with the account.

Earlier it became known that since the beginning of autumn 2021 in Russia over 60 phishing domains with the word ipoteka appeared on the Internet segment. Of these, about half are new sites, allegedly offering citizens assistance in obtaining housing loans. In reality, these sites were originally designed to steal payment data from Russians. Scammers on such sites promise to get a mortgage without bureaucracy and without proof of income. Those who believe them run the risk of being left without money and without real estate
