The Washington Post: Biden administration reviews exercises to contain Russia
US President Joe Biden's administration reviews US military exercises in Europe in recent years. This is reported by The Washington Post, citing sources, TASS reports.
According to the American newspaper, White House employees have asked the Pentagon for relevant information and intend to familiarize themselves with it. Thus, the military will provide the administration with a list of exercises that were carried out in order to “contain the power of Russia and inspire allies and partners in Europe”, as well as their rationale. It is noted that the purpose of the request is to give the White House complete clarity about the conducted military exercises and other actions aimed at containing Moscow, so that new maneuvers can be carried out and evaluated taking into account the past.
A representative of the administration said The Washington Post that the White House wants to know the number of military personnel who participated in such events, as well as what political goals the maneuvers were aimed at.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that strategic bombers of NATO countries fly at a distance of 20 kilometers from the Russian borders. According to him, it goes beyond the red line. “Western exercises in the Black Sea and the flights of their bombers 20 kilometers from the Russian border go beyond the border,” said the head of state. Putin also noted that it is necessary to ensure that Russia is provided with security guarantees from the West.
