GEFCO launched the first carbon neutral train from Slovakia to China
French logistics operator GEFCO launched the first carbon neutral train. He left Slovakia for China on November 15, 2021. The launch of a safe for the planet transport without harmful emissions is stated on the company's website.
The block train for transporting goods consists of 41 carriages, its trip will take three weeks. During this time, he will travel from the Slovak Dunajska Stred to the Chinese city of Xi'an. According to the company, this type of transport is suitable for manufacturers who want to address the issue of carbon emissions from transporting products. The train is also equipped with a temperature control system and the integrity of goods. In this way, GEFCO compensates for 250 tons of CO2 emissions generated during the supply chain on a door-to-door basis.
The development of the train in the company was explained by the desire to find a solution to the climate problem in the railway sector. “There is a growing market demand for more climate-friendly solutions, especially for long distance transport. At GEFCO, we are calculating how our solutions can affect the environment, and we are modernizing them to minimize emissions, and we also propose methods to offset the remaining carbon, ”the company noted.
In October 2021, the Japanese Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (also known as NYK Line) decided to reduce the climate impact of water transport and make it safer for the planet. To achieve this goal, the shipping giant wanted to release ships on ammonia fuel in the next couple of years.
