Press Secretary of the European Commission Stano: Lukashenko created a migration crisis and is responsible for refugees Alexander Lukashenko on the situation with migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border and their further fate. This was stated to RBC by the press secretary of the European Commission (EC) Peter Stano, who explained the essence of the agreements with Belarus.
He rejected both the holding and the possibility of negotiations with Lukashenko. “He created this crisis, he brought these people to Belarus, lying to them that they could easily get into the EU, and they are on the territory of Belarus,” Stano said.
The press secretary also named the Belarusian leader responsible for caring for refugees, and for providing them with access to international organizations for assistance, and for the return of migrants to their homeland.
According to Stano, the European Commission, instead of negotiations with Lukashenko, is going to hold technical negotiations with UN agencies, dealing with migrants, and with Belarusian colleagues at the working level to facilitate the repatriation of refugees. This work, as he added, is in the process.
Since the beginning of November, the migration crisis continues on the Polish-Belarusian border. Thousands of refugees from the countries of the Middle East approached the barriers at the border and tried to penetrate the territory of Poland and other European countries. The Polish security forces had to use additional forces to contain their pressure. The European Union accused the official Minsk of aggravating the situation with migrants.
