Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been on hunger strike in prison for over a month , lost consciousness. This was announced by one of the lawyers of the politician Bek Basilai, reports the Telegram channel “Sputnik Georgia”.
According to him, the former Georgian leader came out after meeting with the lawyers, slipped and fell. “After that I didn’t hear his voice, he didn’t open his eyes. They brought a stretcher and took him away, ”Basilaya said. He also noted that during the meeting Saakashvili felt very bad.
The Special Penitentiary Service later reported that the ex-president's condition had stabilized.
Earlier, a group of doctors who examined the ex -President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, said that there is a threat that he will fall into a coma. The doctors stated that the prison hospital does not meet the conditions necessary for the treatment of Saakashvili, who has been on a hunger strike for 48 days.
The doctors said that the politician is in critical condition. He was diagnosed with Wernicke's encephalopathy, progressive hypokalemia, anemia, thalassemia and the likelihood of stomach bleeding.
Mikhail Saakashvili was arrested on October 1 after returning to Georgia after eight years of emigration to take part in protests. Earlier, he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison. The politician himself believes that his criminal prosecution is of a political nature.
