Germany urged not to wait for the launch of Nord Stream 2 before April

Bundestag deputy Kotrets: the launch of supplies via Nord Stream 2 is possible in April-May

Alternative for Germany ”, a member of the Committee on Economy and Energy in the last convocation, urged not to wait for the launch of Nord Stream 2 before April. In a comment to RIA Novosti, he said that the completion of certification and the launch of the gas pipeline is possible only next spring.

In his opinion, it will not be possible to close the project, but the European Commission will try to delay the process as much as possible. Thus, it will definitely not be possible to make it before the end of the year, but in April or May the start of deliveries is quite realistic.

On Tuesday, November 16, the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) stopped the certification of Nord Stream 2. It wants to wait for the project operator, Swiss Nord Stream 2 AG, to create an independent subsidiary in Germany, which will transfer all assets and rights in the country.

Earlier, a source in the German government indicated that after a new delay, the launch deliveries until next March is not possible. However, the process may be complicated by the European Commission, which must approve the conclusions of the German regulator.

Another representative of the Alternative for Germany, Albert Breininger, suggested that the delay in the project may be due to political reasons. After the elections to the Bundestag, the country needs time to form a new ruling coalition.

The Kremlin commented on the decision of BNetzA with restraint. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stressed that the gas pipeline is technically ready, the further fate of supplies depends on legal formalities.
