Doctor Zhemchugov: high mortality of patients with COVID-19 is associated with late diagnosis and treatment of the disease. This was stated by Vladislav Zhemchugov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, a specialist in especially dangerous infections, on the air of the Sputnik radio station.
“I think this is due to the fact that there is a late diagnosis and late intervention by a doctor. A person thinks for three days that he can heal himself, and only then calls a doctor. The doctor, in turn, does not come right away, “the Russian doctor explained.
He stressed that a physician who arrives at the patient takes a PCR test and only after its results prescribes treatment. An average week passes before the start of treatment, the specialist said.
Zhemchugov noted that it is possible to reduce mortality from coronavirus if people go to doctors at the first symptoms of SARS – then they will be tested for COVID-19 and flu. This will make it possible to provide the necessary assistance in a timely manner, the infectious disease specialist believes.
In Russia, the record for deaths of patients with COVID-19 has been updated for the second day in a row. On Thursday, November 18, it was reported that 1251 patients with COVID-19 died in the country per day. In total, 260 335 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. Most deaths are in Moscow (94), St. Petersburg (79) and the Moscow region (62).
