Ministry of Internal Affairs: a citizen of Nigeria was detained in Balashikha for fraud on a dating site
In Balashikha, near Moscow, police officers detained half a thousand dollars from an African (more than 109 thousand rubles) using a dating site. On Thursday, November 18, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk reported to Lente.ru.
According to police, a citizen of Nigeria created a female account and met a Russian, pretending to be a nurse from the United States serving in Syria. The man allegedly stated the need to transport things and asked a new acquaintance for help in paying and receiving the parcel.
When the victim agreed, the fraudster called him on behalf of the courier of the transport company and said that one and a half thousand dollars had to be paid for the parcel. The Russian borrowed money from a friend and paid, after which the “American” stopped contacting him.
As a result of operational search measures, the police found the whereabouts of the suspect and detained him. A criminal case was initiated under Article 159 (“Fraud”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
