The first Russian play about the snow leopard was staged in Altai

The first Russian play about the snow leopard was staged at the National Theater of the Altai Republic. WWF reports this.

The play “Guardians of the Mountain Peaks” was staged by choreographer from Gorno-Altaysk Olga Askanakova, the actors were schoolchildren of the Altai Republic – members of the Stimul dance studio. The script was written by the staff of the Saylyugem National Park, on the territory of which the most important habitats of the snow leopard in Russia are located. WWF-Russia helped prepare the costumes and music for the performance.

According to Tatiana Ivanitskaya, press secretary of the WWF office in the Altai-Sayan ecoregion, the idea for the performance appeared two years ago. “Since 2010, the Land of the Snow Leopard festival has been held in Russia, and theatrical performances about the snow leopard within the framework of the holiday always attract great attention, arouse the interest of the viewer. Therefore, staging a separate play about the snow leopard was a logical result, “she said.

The plot of the play is based on the history of a family of snow leopards, which researchers have been following for several years. A female snow leopard named Vita and her two kittens were poached in 2013. Vita and the kittens died an agonizing death in wire loops, with the help of which they illegally catch snow leopards and other animals.

The premiere was watched by about 200 spectators. The authors and partners of the play are discussing possible tours, subject to sanitary restrictions.
