Russians warned against communicating with false employees of public utilities

Lawyer Krokhin: lonely pensioners usually become victims of swindlers from the housing and communal services sector lonely pensioners, but everyone can be deceived, Konstantin Krokhin, a lawyer and chairman of the board of the Union of Housing Organizations of Moscow, said in an interview with Sputnik radio. He warned Russians against communicating with false employees of public utilities.

According to the expert, the most common method of deception in the housing sector is to impose unnecessary services on citizens. If the “communal service provider” persistently suggests that something be repaired, it is better not to rush into making a decision and first consult with someone else.

“Fraudsters use a psychological technique: putting a person into stress,” said Krokhin. “They say that a decision must be made quickly: today a 30 percent discount, tomorrow it will be more expensive.” If such argumentation is used, it is not worth accepting the offer quickly, the lawyer emphasized.

In general, you need to try to contact employees who can prove their affiliation with the organization serving the house, added Krokhin. Real public utilities have special uniforms, they must introduce themselves, he said. In addition, you can call the managing organization and clarify whether such people work there.

Previously, the Russians vaccinated against COVID-19 were offered a discount on housing and communal services. This initiative was made by the deputy head of the economic committee of the Federation Council (SF) Ivan Abramov. In his opinion, providing a discount is cheaper than treating people infected with coronavirus.
