EastFruit: Ukraine first started importing fresh cucumbers from Russia sources.
Russian cucumber turns out to be competitive in price, despite the 10% import duty, the interlocutors of the publication noted. According to experts, this is a resonant event, until now Russia was considered one of the main markets for Ukrainian greenhouse cucumbers.
For eight months of this year, Kiev purchased a record volume of fresh cucumbers – 12.1 thousand tons. The main suppliers are Belarus and Turkey. Exports from Ukraine amounted to 4,000 tons, it increased by 2.3 times compared to the same period in 2020.
The supply of Ukrainian cucumbers on the market is limited, only a few factories are shipping, said the head of international projects Fruit-Inform Evgeny Kuzin.
A kilogram of Ukrainian cucumbers costs about 38-45 hryvnia (104-123 rubles). Against this background, imports of this vegetable from Turkey have sharply increased, they are cheaper by five to ten hryvnia per kilogram. Cucumbers from Russia enter the market at the lowest prices among all competitors (at 60-80 rubles per kilogram), Kuzin emphasized. Poland is also increasing imports of Russian cucumbers.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine imported eggs from Belarus for the first time in 30 years, because the country no longer had enough of its own production volumes.
