Apple allows iPhone repairs at home

Apple will sell iPhone and Mac parts for home repairs

Apple will allow users to repair smartphones and computers themselves. This was reported on the company's website.

The American company announced the launch of the Self Service Repair program. The IT giant will sell popular iPhone and Mac parts and post repair instructions to the public. Apple will first sell parts for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, followed by components for Mac computers based on M1 processors.

Self Service Repair is reported to begin early next year in the US. During 2022, the program will be expanded to other countries. “Initially, it will focus on the most commonly serviced components such as the iPhone display, battery and camera,” the company said. More than 200 parts can be ordered from the Apple Store to help fix popular iPhone issues at home.

“Expanding access to Genuine Apple Parts gives our customers even more choice when they need repairs,” said COO Apple Jeff Williams. However, the corporation believes that for most users the choice of a verified service center is more suitable than home repairs.

“We never thought that we would live to see this day,” responded to the announcement at iFixit, experts which is engaged in popularizing self-repair.

Earlier it became known that Apple will allow third-party service centers to repair the iPhone. Before that, replacing the display on a smartphone in artisanal conditions was almost impossible, since in this case there was a high probability of failure of the Face ID sensor.
