The S-550 air defense system may become the world's first mobile anti-missile and anti-space defense system. The new system will intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles and space attack weapons. The author notes that the S-550 will be able to withstand the American X-37B orbital aircraft.
The publication emphasizes that a promising system is being developed on the basis of the S-500 Prometheus complex, which can intercept missiles at ranges of up to 600 kilometers. “And if the S-550 does indeed achieve the same indicators, then Russia's lag in the field of missile defense will probably be eliminated in one leap, and it will even be able to surpass countries such as the United States and Israel,” the author sums up.
< p> Earlier it became known about the development of a new S-550 air defense system. During the defense meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the importance of supplying the S-350, S-500 and S-550 systems to the troops.
Later in the military-industrial complex it was reported that the new system was based on the S- 500 “Prometheus”. Progress was also noted in work on the S-550.
The S-550 mobile missile defense system can be put into service with the Russian army until 2025. The S-550 brigade kit will receive a hypersonic missile.
