The social network Facebook collects a huge amount of information about users and controls both the information itself and access to it, said the founder of the social network MeWe Mark Weinstein. In a big interview with “Lente.ru” as part of a large-scale special project “Algorithm. Who controls you? ” he explained how Facebook can misuse users' personal information and why they are at risk.
According to Weinstein, Facebook, which is used by more than three billion people, knows a lot about its users. For example, information about their religious preferences, financial situation, political views, sexual orientation and other data.
At the same time, the creator of MeWe noted that there are many examples of Facebook abuse of power. That is why users are in danger, he stressed.
“Let's say you belong to a minority in some country. The government decided that it did not like this minority. They can find out everything about you. It is dangerous for the whole world, “Weinstein said.
He clarified that this approach of Facebook deprives people of the right to disagree without fear of persecution – the freedom to have a different opinion. According to the creator of MeWe, the social network has turned into an economic system that lives off user data and provides access to it to governments. This means that in this way the authorities can manipulate the opinions of unwanted people, suppress them and harm them, Weinstein emphasized.
