The harm from dirty air was clearly shown

An interactive installation appeared in Poland in the form of lungs to demonstrate the harm of emissions

… On the main streets of cities, activists have placed interactive sculptures in the form of human lungs, which demonstrate the quality of local air and the impact of emissions on the body. The portal TheMayor.EU writes about this.

The two-meter model of the lungs “inhales” the street air, and the pollution contained in it remains on the surface. At the time of installation, the installation is white, but after two weeks it turns gray or even black. The activists decided to bring the sculpture to 41 cities in order to draw the attention of residents to the environmental problem.

“We are confident that the campaign will have a result. When residents watch their lungs turn black every day, they begin to realize that air quality matters and that the pollutants we breathe negatively affect health. As part of the campaign, we tried to cover regions where air quality is not measured, and people do not know anything about its condition, ”said the organizer of the initiative, Magdalena Kozłowska.

The start of the campaign coincided with the start of the heating season – in Poland it starts in mid-November and has a negative effect on the atmosphere. One of the goals of the charity event is to educate the public about subsidies for replacing air-polluting heating devices.

Earlier, the European Environment Agency found that more than 300 thousand Europeans died from dirty air in 2019. Experts believe there would be half the death toll if EU countries kept the concentration of particulate matter (PM 2.5) in the air at the recommended level of five micrograms per cubic meter.
