On Saturday evening, November 13, Paul Fullard was returning from an evening walk and heard the sounds of an alarm coming from a neighbor's house. The owner of the dog decided to make sure everything was in order, so he looked through the window and saw an orange glow in the kitchen.
Fullard called the fire department and reported the fire. While the rescuers were on their way, he knocked on the door to see if anyone was at home. There was no answer, but neighbors who went outside said that there was a woman inside who was most likely asleep. The Briton knocked out the door with his foot, but due to heavy smoke he could not enter the house. At that moment, firefighters arrived.
The brigade quickly eliminated the fire and carried the inhabitant of the house, who was in the bedroom, into the street. The woman managed to breathe in the smoke, but she was rescued.
“If the police and the fire brigade had stayed for another couple of minutes, she would most likely have been burned to death,” concluded Fullard.
