Plans for NATO Expansion to Central Asia Revealed

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zakharova accused NATO of plans to expand the alliance in Central Asia to expand its presence in Central Asia. The diplomat revealed the plans of the alliance during a weekly briefing on current foreign policy issues.

According to Zakharova, NATO has a program to consolidate itself in Central Asia. This program is part of the general vector of the alliance, which, while declaring the defensive nature of the union, is in fact actively expanding the orbit of its own interests, the Foreign Ministry official believes.

Relations between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance have seriously deteriorated after the sides almost completely broke off diplomatic cooperation in October 2021. Then the secretary general of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, reduced the Russian representation in Brussels from 20 to 10 people, and in response the Russian Foreign Office suspended the activities of the NATO military mission in Moscow. Since November 1, the Russian mission to NATO has completely ceased its work.

The Russian Council on International Affairs told Lenta.ru that the severance of normal communication between Moscow and the alliance will take a long time.
