Josep Borrell: defense ministers of the 27 EU countries approved the idea of creating a unified army
The European Union (EU) wanted to create a unified army that capable of deploying a military grouping of up to five thousand troops to defend against hybrid threats. This is reported by RTVE with reference to the words of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

According to the head of European diplomacy, now the EU does not have the capacity and rapid response groups for accelerated mobilization. “The essence of the idea is to have specialized groups for various tasks, since in the event of evacuation of citizens or in the event of interference between two parties to the conflict, the same forces will not work,” he explained.

Now EU members are developing a roadmap with concrete proposals and timelines for implementation. The final approval is scheduled for March 2022.
