Ukraine completes investigation of Yanukovych case on dispersal of Euromaidan

It is noted that Yanukovych, as well as the former heads of the SBU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Internal Troops, the Ministry of Defense, the Kiev militia and the capital's Berkut regiment wanted to end the mass protests – for this they organized the use of physical violence, special equipment, military equipment and firearms by the security forces to disperse demonstrators.

In particular, on February 18, 2014, the storming of the Maidan was organized under the guise of an anti-terrorist operation, and on the morning of February 20, the shooting of the protesters by the staff of the “black company” of the “Berkut” and the arming of the “titushki” with firearms (the generalized name of the people's guards, activists, militants who were on the side authorities during the events on the Maidan – approx. “Lenta.ru” ), according to the office of the Prosecutor General. As a result, 67 civilians were killed, another 887 were injured, and 132 security officials were also injured.

Among the crimes of which the defendants are accused are organizing illegal obstruction of rallies, premeditated murders, causing grievous bodily harm as part of a criminal group , organization of a terrorist attack.

After the defense gets acquainted with the materials of the investigation, they will be sent to the court.

Mass protests known as Euromaidan took place in the winter of 2013-2014 and ended with the overthrow of Yanukovych, who fled to Russia. More than 100 people were killed in clashes between protesters and security officials in Kiev. The new Ukrainian government blamed the Berkut special forces for the incident. His former employees deny any guilt.
