Dmitry Peskov: Nord Stream 2 certification and the European energy crisis are not interconnected
Nord Stream 2 certification and energy the crisis in Europe is not interconnected. Such an assessment was given by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.
The Kremlin spokesman stressed that the certification of the Russian gas pipeline is a difficult process, and this was clear from the very beginning. “The operator company fulfills all the necessary requirements of the regulator, in fact, yesterday we saw a fairly prompt reaction from the Nord Stream-2 company,” Peskov said.
The press secretary stressed that the certification of Nord Stream-2 and an energy crisis is two different processes that take place in the same area and are not interdependent. According to Peskov, you need to be patient. “Here, of course, we, as the Russian side, are convinced that the project itself is important for Europe,” the spokesman said.
On November 15, the Federal Network Agency (the German regulator) announced the suspension of the certification of Nord Stream 2 “in connection with legal issues. The procedure will resume when Gazprom creates a subsidiary in Germany for the German part of the pipeline. This move has already been commented on by the head of Naftogaz Ukrainy, Yuriy Vitrenko. He called the creation of a subsidiary a legal gimmick and called on the United States to impose sanctions against it.
After Germany's decision, the price of gas in Europe rose to a record level and exceeded the $ 1,000 per thousand cubic meter mark. At the time of this writing, the cost of one thousand cubic meters of gas is $ 1178.5, according to the London ICE stock exchange.
