Ice “needles” and “saucers” were called an unusual phenomenon that occurs in winter in Russia
notice on the territory of Russia, and all this happens because of the ice, the sun and the stars. This was reported on the ogorod.ru portal. The authors of the article have listed the most interesting, in their opinion, natural transformations.
First of all, this is the northern lights, which occurs due to the glow of the upper atmosphere. It can be seen in the northern regions of the country. The sky shows the interaction of the atmosphere with charged particles of the solar wind, which is why the colors shimmer in waves, exuding most often violet-green and orange-reddish colors. Similar hues arise from nitrogen and oxygen.
Then there are the frozen waterfalls and fountains. Due to extreme cold and wind, the active water flow stops abruptly. Thus, a raised barrier or tower appears.
Among the phenomena named were also ice “saucers”, which are also called “pancake ice” – when small, numerous or large single ovals appear on the surface of frozen water bodies. The largest such “saucer” in history was recorded at Lake Baikal.
The authors of the article also remembered the “ice needles”. This phenomenon occurs only in clear and frosty weather. Then crystals begin to form and sparkle in the sun or in the light of lanterns.
In conclusion, the authors mentioned the solar halo – a phenomenon when dazzling white light reflected and refracted by ice crystals frames the sun, turns into a vertical pillar or cross. It is specified that sometimes it decomposes into a spectrum, which makes the halo look like a rainbow.
Earlier, near Pskov, a Russian astrophotographer captured a church church against the background of the northern lights. His pictures amazed the Russians. In September, an astrophotographer from Primorye took a picture of space that impressed NASA. Against the background of the starry sky, he photographed a giant pine tree. The photo shows the star Altair, the green glow of the atmosphere, as well as the flight path of fireflies.
