Prisoners will help Russians with separate waste collection

RBC: The Federal Penitentiary Service will supply more than 17 thousand containers for garbage collection to 14 regions of Russia

The Federal Penitentiary Service regions with separate waste collection – the department will provide more than 17 thousand containers for waste, RBC reports with reference to the Russian Environmental Operator (REO).

Supplies will be carried out under state subsidies, containers from the Federal Penitentiary Service will make up more than a quarter of all subsidized purchases in 2021 – in October, the authorities allocated 46 regions a billion rubles for the purchase of 65.5 thousand containers by the end of the year. The REO explained the choice of the service by its reputation as a reliable supplier. “The FSIN is not only a strict regime colony, when it is impossible to leave the territory, but also a general regime, when prisoners are employed, including at the production of containers,” the operator noted.

Since 2019, the FSIN has been providing garbage containers in Russian cities and regions, including Bryansk, Petrozavodsk, Tomsk, Kaliningrad, Bashkiria, the Astrakhan region and Sakhalin. The cost of one container reaches almost 19 thousand rubles, the service life reaches three years. “Clean Planet” from the Bryansk region cooperates with the service. “We could order containers from a third-party contractor, but we purchase products from prisoners to give them work. This is our social mission, “- said the representative of the operator.

In October 2021, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Victoria Abramchenko said that the authorities will force the regions to handle waste in a new way, creating a green rating of regions based on the effectiveness of the reform implementation on solid waste management.
