Shoigu issued a statement due to the aggravation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict

Russian Defense Minister Shoigu called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop escalating the conflict

the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan, TASS reports with reference to the Russian military department.

During telephone conversations with colleagues from both countries, Shoigu called on the parties to stop actions provoking an escalation of the situation.

In turn , Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov told his Russian counterpart that they had stopped the provocation of Armenia at the border.

Earlier, Shoigu also talked with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan. He confirmed Moscow's readiness to make efforts to end hostilities, return prisoners of war and resolve the situation.

On November 16, battles began on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The parties accused each other of provocations. Yerevan appealed to Moscow with an appeal to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia in accordance with the 1997 bilateral agreement. According to the defense ministries of the two countries, the situation on the border remains extremely tense.
