Military historian Yulin: Europe will ease sanctions against Belarus after the elections in Poland 
Poland is partly beneficial to the migration crisis, because thanks to a tough position on this issue, the ruling party managed to significantly raise its rating on the eve of the elections, said military historian Boris Yulin. In a conversation with “Lenta.ru”, he suggested that after the elections, Europe may agree to soften sanctions against Belarus, and the head of state Alexander Lukashenko himself will remove migrants from the border.
Polish border guards began to disperse groups of illegal migrants. gathered on the border with Belarus, using a water cannon, tear gas and stun grenades. There has been no shooting yet, but Yulin is sure that such a possibility cannot be ruled out.
“Now everything depends solely on how the political positions develop. Both sides use migrants as a tool to put pressure on each other. On the one hand, Lukashenka is trying to achieve a relaxation of sanctions, promising that in this case he will stop letting migrants through the territory of Belarus. On the other hand, the Poles have their own elections. The fact is that the ruling party has greatly raised its rating due to its tough position with migrants, so this story is also very interesting for them, ”the military expert noted.
Yulin added that both sides of the conflict are using migrants to to secure their political interests. The fact that people are suffering, that their right to leave their country and move to another is being violated, nobody cares. “I suspect that as soon as the elections are held in Poland, Europe will decide to ease the sanctions against Belarus. Lukashenka, in response to this, himself will remove migrants from the border. Such an outcome of events seems to me the most probable, “Yulin described the scenario.
The migration crisis on the border of Belarus with Poland and Lithuania escalated in November. Crowds of migrants have gathered near the cordons of the republics, some of them periodically make an attempt to break through to the territory of the European Union.
